Not My Kind of Spur

I've always liked the sound of a spur on a hardwood floor...not my floor...but a barroom floor. And yes we have that here in my neck of Northern Calif...cowboys with spurs...real cowboys.  And I have found out I have my own spur: a HORRIBLE, PAINFUL, BONE SPUR on the bottom heel of my left foot. YIKES!! I swear I have never been in so much pain...and I've had five kids and one was over 12 pounds!! Wholly Molly, talk about pain! I can barely hobble around in the morning, but after about fifteen minutes, although still tender I'm able to get around without hanging onto furniture, counter tops and broom handles and after about half an hour hardly any pain at all...but if I sit for a bit and then get up the pain starts all over again...if I stay on my feet, it's not bad. I Googled my symptoms and came up with the bone spur. My husband agreed...he had them in his youth. In most cases foot exercises, weight loss, and heel splint pads usually help. Very seldom is surgery required. I started the foot exercises a couple days ago and just ordered some super duper heel pads and some great shoes...now the weight loss thing...d_mn...hate that part. Truth is, this thing is so painful, I'm willing to try and lose a few pounds to make the pain go away.

Ouch! My mom had spurs a couple years back. Surgery was the only thing that helped her. She's all better now. I hope you find a quick and effective solution.

I thought I had a bone spur on my heel once, it was so terribly painful. It went away on its own though, so it must not have been a spur. I think I stood on an ice cube to lessen the pain.

I'm on day 35 of my diet, and I've lost about half of my target weight loss. May I suggest a program I find invaluable...DietPower. It's not cheap, but download the free trial and see if you like it. I've had it(and used it many times)for years and years, ever since it first came out. I had to upgrade to the new version when I bought the new laptop last month, but I just wouldn't have a computer without it. It has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get used to entering everything you eat, the daily logging goes pretty fast. dietpower.com

I believe that Google is god...not to be disrespectful...but it knows everything. I go to my doctor with my "self-diagnosis" and she just rolls her eyes at me! Sounds painful!! We are into weight loss here...trying to go to smaller portions, less carbs, more vegetables, and a healthy smoothy in the am: greens, blueberries, walnuts, piece of banana, almond milk. We will not talk about wine!

Jody: I'm hoping surgery is not in my future! Glad to hear your mom is ok...they really hurt.

Texan: yeah, like you don't have hot cowboys in TEXAS!!

Annie's Granny: I'm going to check into the dietpower.com...thanks for the info. My sister lost about 40 pounds by downloading some diet/exercise program on her I-phone..it kept track of everything.

Patricia: I'm with you: Love, love, love: GOOGLE! I think I need to work on portion control AND a dedicated exercise (ick) program. I only eat healthy, non-processed foods, but I eat more than my fair share!

Was there LIFE before Google-LOL!!
I agree-it's the best thing for finding out anything!
So sorry you're having trouble with a heel spur-my husband suffers terribly from time to time. Of course, his foot doctor says surgery is the way to go (yea-I bet! Costly!!!)
He knows he (WE) need to lose weight. It would help our acid reflux too. But gosh, it's tough in a world of cookies. And pizzas. And ice cream...... and so on and so on!!

Boy, spurs are very very painful! I sure hope that it heals without surgery!

If not, you can always blow up that cowboy picture to look at while you are recovering! That should make you feel a bit better :)

Spurs are horrid and very painful, BUT, if it hurts, let that good looking eye candy rub your feet awhile.
We have LOTS of these running around the sandhills here, spurs and all and the one in a while horse in the bar bit too! Especially during NebraskaLand Days here, gets a little too wild for me.

Foot massages have always helped me, the heel spurs not so much.

So I gotta ask is that how you get the milk maids to show up for work ? Also any vacancies ?
