That's a Tornado Touchdown in Colusa County!
Crazy weather and more coming....ten more days of rain and wind. The River is flooding...but has not breached the levee system...thank goodness for the levees and the weir system. The restaurant at the River has been sandbagged and the River has covered the patio and is lapping at the doors...my Mobile Commercial Kitchen is still dry and safe. We had over 300 almond trees ripped out of the ground and are gone for good. My willow tree has split in two and huge branches are strewn all over the yard. The garden is fine (another thumbs-up for raised beds)...the first break we have I'm going to go ahead and plant my tomatoes, peppers and my other starts...I'm tired of waiting.
I had my birthday escape weekend from Friday to Monday....three of the gals could not make it...they were snowed in at Echo Summit...in a blizzard...6 semi-tractors and 15 cars crashed in front of them and half a dozen behind them...7 hours stranded...thank goodness they had food, blankets and water...they did have to venture out to pee...next time they said they'd carry a lidded coffee can! The birthday went on without them. Lots of wind and rain. We had a huge fireplace, lots of food, books and conversation...it was really nice. Plan on getting together again in August...hopefully we will have dried up by then. |

Ok, I thought I had it bad because I couldn't get outside because of the wind. I am thankful for the wind. It sounds like you are having some really, really bad weather.
Holy crap! That's some nutty weather! You all take the award for putting up with more than a person deserves. So sorry about the almonds. What a waste.
Happy Birthday! Wow! That was close... stay dry and warm. The plants look great. You have a good start on your garden. Take care.
Oh my dear! That is terrible....especially the nut trees. How can you still sound so normal and almost joyful? I'd be having a nervous breakdown and crying my eyes out. At least you had a nice, if rather lonely, birthday celebration!
Happy Birthday...every now and then Mother Nature makes her presence felt. What a same to loose your trees. :-(
It has been a crazy Winter. We have 800 acres of almonds...loosing 300 trees is a big deal, but not as big as it sounds...it happens. We've lost 1,000's of acres of beans, rice, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, etc. over the years: you never get used to it but you know it happens. Each catastrophe is a valuable lesson...I'm a glass is half full kinda' gal. My life is good...floods, droughts, once in a live-time tornados, bugs, weeds and all...I wouldn't change it for the world. I love this farm and it loves me.
OK .. I'll stop complaining about our dreary weather. You've had a very rough go .. and it's not over. I'd better go check on my folks .. they live in Magalia (Butte County). The weather trough has dipped quite a bit south of us .. we were getting storm after storm for the past two months. Sorry for the loss of valuable trees; I bet you can get some good money for fire wood.
Happy Birthday Lynda. It sounds like you had a nice weekend even though some of your friends did make it. You are having some crazy weather out there! At least you are safe and sound. I just woke up to some snow!
Oh my gosh, glad you're ok. Sorry about the trees.
And your friends who didn't make the party, we all should take a lesson from them.
I think I should make my truck more prepared.
