Surprise Food!

I decided to not use garden space this year to plant melons, winter squash, summer squash, cucumbers or water melon (the family grows them commercially)...I did break down and plant zucchini and crooknecks in the holes of some cinder blocks and I did let anything that volunteered to go ahead and grow if they weren't interfering...so, this is what I got:

I Don't Think We'll Get to Eat This One!

Volunteer Cukes in the Compost I Used To Fill The Tomato Buckets...Lots Of Cukes!

I Think This Is A Pumpkin...But I have Never Grown Pumpkins...My Son Grows Them A Mile Or Two From Me!

I am just having hoots over that melon in the block.
Its showing its square shape. Go ahead, leave it and then take a sharp knife and slice it, I curious how it will taste.
Oh, and by the way, I didn't get bit! I have been told by the neighbors that we have a 25 lb possum running around also. I not too sure about tackling that one!
Have a great weekend.

I had a squash grow through the chain link fence once, with half on one side of a link and the other half on the other side, so it looked like a figure 8. I had to cut it in half to harvest it, but that would be simpler than removing yours from that block!

It's funny some of the places things decide to grow. Good luck getting that one out. A good knife perhaps?

That is so funny about the melon. I just love volunteers and always let them grow. Free food!

I'm paranoid now...every a.m. and p.m. I'm out in the garden checking cinder block holes!

I picked a bucket of cukes today and made 4 quarts of dills. Tomorrow I plan on sweet pickle relish. I'm kinda' glad those cukes made their way into the tomato patch.
